Believe it or not, most the feedback I get from this story is from stock brokers who want to know more about Duer himself. No problem:

William Duer was a British-born American jurist, developer, and financial speculator from New York City. Even more, he was one of the original continental congressmen who helpedfound the country. In 1778, Duer signed the United States Articles of Confederation and is one of the Founding Fathers of the United States.

You may not have heard about him because things didn’t go to well for Duer. He is the man held responsible for the great Wall Street crash of 1792.
