The Tell-tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe – Audio Book (1843)

The Tell-tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe Audio Book

If we had to start somewhere, meaning which Poe story first, there are a lot to choose from. We decided this one would be best. So, no better way to start things off than with the Tell-tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe, circa. 1843.

The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe is one of the best known stories ever. Not just one of the best Poe stories, but of all time. First published in 1843, the story is about an anonymous narrator who insists on his sanity while confessing to the murder of an old man.

The narrator meticulously plans and executes the murder, dismembering the body and hiding it under the floorboards, but is ultimately driven mad by guilt, believing he hears the victim’s heart beating beneath the floor. The heartbeat, as it were, drives him mad.

And that is the famous part of the story, copied and adapted to many different screenplays and teleplays, shows like Night Gallery and the Outer Limits. But don’t take our word for it. Come read the story straight from the mouth of the master, Edgar Allen Poe.

Or, read it the old-fashioned way.

Enjoy!
