The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is a short story originally published in 1892. It’s a feminist tale. Yes, they had feminist back in 1892. In fact, by then it was old hat.
The story itself is a woman’s descent into psychosis while receiving a “rest cure” for nervous depression. The only problem is that her doctor is also her husband. Confined to an upstairs nursery, she becomes obsessed with the room’s hideous yellow wallpaper, hence the title.
Enjoy
Charlotte Perkins Gilman was an American humanist and novelist. Besides being a writer, she was a lecturer, and an advocate for social reform. She was at the time a Feminist, which was really a thing back then. Her best remembered work today is her 1892 semi-autobiographical short story The Yellow Wallpaper, which she wrote after a severe bout of postpartum depression.
