The Book Loft Amelia Island Florida

We’ve been wanting to feature a bookstore for a long time, but when we saw The Book Loft on Amelia Island we knew now was the time. We just love this place…

The Book Loft was founded in 1987 by Bill Nelson. As Amelia Island’s oldest bookstore, it sells old-school books, fiction and non-fiction classics as well as bestsellers. The store is as quaint as it is extensive. There’s a lot of good stuff here.

The Book Loft celebrates the island’s vibrant cultural. Past displays include a collection of local antiques and work by the renowned watercolor artist William Maurer. There are regular author visits, book clubs, language classes, and children’s story times, just like in the old days.

Among the many famous authors who have visited the store is John Grisham, whose best-selling Camino Island series is said to be inspired by his time living on Amelia Island and perusing the Loft.

The island was named for Princess Amelia, daughter of George II of Great Britain, and rule over the island changed hands between colonial powers a number of times. It is claimed that eight flags have flown over Amelia Island: French, Spanish, British, Floridian/Patriot, Green Cross, Mexican, Confederate, and United States.

Amelia Island offers a festivals and events calendar brimming with diverse and lively gatherings that cater to every interest and age group. From the annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival, a beloved tradition that pays homage to the island’s maritime heritage, to Amelia Island Concours Week, a world-class automotive showcase that draws car enthusiasts from far and wide, Amelia Island proudly embraces the vibrant tapestry of its colorful past and present.

Amelia Island is located in Nassau County, Florida, 30 minutes north of Jacksonville. It is the northernmost barrier island on Florida’s Atlantic coast.
