Outpost 31 Submissions

Outpost 31
South Pole – Fiction, Novellas, Sci-fi, Fantasy, Horror

Outpost 31 is an independent publisher and small press located in Enderby Land, Antarctica. Not exactly the South Pole, but close enough.

Outpost 31 publishes the grossest and most gruesome titles, fiction mainly in the categories of horror, sci-fi and fantasy. Outpost 31 is an old-school, traditional publisher. So old-school, in fact, that they don’t even have email.

Outpost 31 Submissions

Outpost 31 welcomes unsolicited submissions.

Outpost 31 is happy to receive your manuscript. In fact, they’re pleased as punch to receive any communication from the outside world at all. It gets pretty damn lonely at the South Pole.

But here’s the thing: Outpost 31 is Par Avion. That means you’re going to have to send it by icebreaker ship. That means it’s going to take about a year for your ms to get there—and that’s on a good day. Then, about a year for them to review it, then another year to receive it back. If you query first, you’re looking at six years. That’s hard time. So send the whole damn manuscript, and hope it doesn’t get hijacked by some fat little furry creatures in their headwaiters uniforms.

Good luck!

Meet the Publisher

RJ (Mac) MacReady (Publisher/Founder) – MacReady started Outpost 31 back in 1938, only then it was known as Astounding Science Fiction. RJ served as a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War. Later, he worked for Hughes Aircraft as a test pilot, before resigning and starting Outpost 31. Besides publishing great sci-fi and horror books, in his spare time RJ likes dressing up as Wyatt Earp and transforming into slimy, disgusting alien creatures.

Make sure you don’t forget the SASE. Imagine sending it all that way and not getting back a reply just because you forgot to buy stamps. If you do send your story here, please let us know how it goes. No one yet has ever come back alive.

They may not have email, but they do have a website. Maybe they set it up last time they went on leave.
