About Aleph Books

The Aleph Book Company is an award-winning publishing firm based in New Delhi. Since its founding in 2011 by David Davidar, it has twice won the prestigious Publisher of the Year award.

Aleph publishes books of enduring literary quality by Indian writers or writers of Indian origin. On occasion, outstanding books by international writers are also published.

Aleph puts out over fifty titles annually in the following categories: fiction, history, biography, autobiography, politics, current events, reportage, travel, popular science, art, music, nature studies, the environment, business, translations, philosophy, sociology, psychology, and popular culture—as well as works of narrative non-fiction that are not easily categorized.

Author Spotlight: Ira Mukholy

 Ira Mukhoty is the author of The Lion and the Lily: The Rise and Fall of Awadh; Daughters of the Sun: Empresses, Queens and Begums of the Mughal Empire; and Heroines: Powerful  Indian Women in Myth and History.

Living in one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, she developed an interest in the evolution of mythology and history, the erasure of women from these histories, and the continuing relevance this has on the status of women in India.

She writes rigorously researched narrative histories that are accessible to the lay reader. She lives in Gurgaon with her husband and two daughters.
