It’s here, and it’s about time.
REAL WRITER’S MARKET: Emerging Markets is the first ever writer’s market focused solely on under-represented and marginalized groups that have traditionally faced low inclusion in mainstream publishing. We’re here to help put an end to that tradition. We’re talking about:

The Feminist Press at CUNY is an American independent, non-profit literary publisher of the City University of New York. It primarily publishes feminist literature that promotes freedom of expression and social justice. The press publishes writing by people who share an activist spirit and a belief in choice and equality.
Founded in 1970 to challenge sexual stereotypes in books, schools and libraries, the press began by rescuing “lost” works by writers such as Zora Neale Hurston, Charlotte Perkins Gilman and Rebecca Harding Davis, and established its publishing program with books by American writers of diverse racial and class backgrounds.
Since then, it has been bringing works from around the world to North American readers. The Feminist Press is the longest surviving women’s publishing house in the world.
The Feminist Press Mission
The Feminist Press publishes books that ignite movements and social transformation. They celebrate the feminist legacy, lifting up insurgent and marginalized voices from around the world to build a more just future.
Feminist Press Submissions
Unsolicited submissions championed. No agent required.
The Feminist Press publishes anywhere from 12-15 books a year and specializes in cutting-edge literary fiction, activist non-fiction, literature in translation, hybrid memoirs, and more.
For non-fiction, FP is looking for political and cultural activist pieces that further our understanding of feminism. Other topics of interest include feminist dystopia, environmental justice, and immigration stories. They do not publish poetry, dramatic works, doctoral dissertations, or literary criticism.
Look for open submission periods by checking with the publisher first. Next call will be winter 2025/2026.
What types of books does the Feminist Press publish?
The FP team is passionate about international literature, hybrid memoirs, boundary-pushing literary fiction, and intersectional activist non-fiction. They are looking to publish more fiction by BIPOC, queer, and trans writers in fantasy and speculative fiction genres.
What types of books is the Feminist Press not looking for?
The Feminist Press does not publish Kid’s books, poetry collections, drama/plays, doctoral dissertations, or literary criticism.
