Black Lawrence Press is an independent publisher of contemporary poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction. Founded in 2004 by Colleen Ryor, Black Lawrence became an imprint of Dzanc Books in 2008. It got its independence back in 2013.

Black Lawrence Press was founded in upstate New York in the land between two rivers, the Black River and the beautiful St. Lawrence River, hence the name Black Lawrence Press.

Unsolicited submissions welcome during open reading period.

During their June and November Open Reading Periods, Black Lawrence accepts submissions in the following categories: novel, novella, short story collection (full-length and chapbook), poetry (full-length and chapbook), biography & cultural studies, and creative non-fiction.

Black Lawrence Press accepts submissions exclusively through our online submission manager, Submittable. They are not able to accept submissions via email or postal mail.
