Bluemoose Books is an independent publisher of literary fiction and small press based in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. Kevin and Hetha Duffy started Bluemoose in 2006 and as a ‘family’ of readers and writers who are passionate about the written word and stories.

Hetha and Kevin re-mortgaged their house to start Bluemoose. Fourteen years later, they’re going stronger than ever, just winning the 2025 British Book Awards. The press gets its name from saxophone player Bull Moose Johnson.

Bluemoose publishes literary fiction and some non-fiction. It does not publish children’s, YA or poetry. Please query with sample chapters first.

Bluemoose Wins British Book Award

Bluemoose Books is happy to announce it has won the British Book Awards’ Small Press of the Year award for the North England region, 2025. They won the exact same award back in 2023.

The British Book Awards, also known as The Nibbies, celebrate excellence in publishing. Bluemoose Books is known for publishing successful literary fiction with titles like “The Gallows Pole” by Benjamin Myers, which was adapted into a BBC series, and “Leonard and Hungry Paul” by Rónán Hession.

Bluemoose Books has had multiple titles nominated for various major literary prizes, including the British Book Awards, Royal Society of Literature Prize, and Parliamentarian Book of the Year.

Bluemoose has also had titles nominated for the Portico Prize (winning for Beastings), the National Book Awards, and the An Post Irish Book Awards.
