Celebrating adventures in literary publishing since 2004, Book*hug Press is a Canadian-owned and operated, radically optimistic independent publisher working at the forefront of contemporary book culture.

Book*hug specializes in bold and dynamic literary fiction, literature in translation, poetry, and narrative non-fiction. They publish critically acclaimed, award-winning literary books with a strong and recognizable brand.

Notable authors include Shani Mootoo, Lee Maracle, Maria Stepanova, Olga Ravn, M. NourbeSe Philip and more. Book*hug titles have won or been shortlisted for the Giller Prize, the International Booker Prize, the Governor General’s Literary Awards, the Atlantic Books Awards and more.

Book*hug now celebrates more than twenty years in publishing.

Book*hug Press Submissions

Unsolicited submissions welcome. No agent required.

Book*hug Press publishes contemporary, innovative books of literary fiction, translated literature, poetry, and creative non-fiction. They do not publish children’s books, cookbooks, scholarly or academic texts, self-help books, fantasy, commercial fiction, thrillers, or crime fiction. They do not accept submissions that use any AI-generated text or content.

Book*hug is currently acquiring books for publication in Fall 2027 and beyond. Submission reopen in Spring 2027. Book*hug publishes between 16-18 books a year.
