Bridget Williams Books is an independent New Zealand publisher, founded in 1990 by Bridget Williams herself. Bridget was actually working for Allen & Unwin at the time. When the esteemed publisher went up for sale, Bridget went out on her own. That was more than three decades ago, and Bridget Williams is still going strong. (Allen & Unwin is doing just fine, too.)

Bridget Williams’ publishing history actually goes back to 1976 when she was first working at Oxford University Press. There, she championed such titles as The Oxford History of New Zealand (edited by W.H. Oliver with B.R. Williams), Geoffrey Palmer’s Unbridled Power, and the collected poems of James K. Baxter and Maurice Gee’s, Under the Mountain.

Bridget Williams is looking for books on New Zealand history, Māori history, women’s issues and contemporary topics.
