Canelo publishes a wide array of top-quality genre fiction, including romance and rom-coms, historical fiction, spy thrillers and psychological thrillers.

Canelo was founded in 2015 to take the best from the old world of publishing and combine it with the best of the new, all while offering more beneficial terms to authors. Canelo has been shortlisted for Independent Publisher of the Year at the British Book Awards 2021 and 2022.

Canelo is looking for new and exciting voices within commercial fiction. They want books that are absorbing, immersive and compelling.

What they’re looking for:

– Saga: historical novels, generational series
– Action: military thrillers, spy and espionage, conspiracy thrillers
– Adventure: historical adventure, mythical retellings, fantasy
– Romance: romance, romantic comedy, exotic locations
– Commercial women’s fiction: issues led narratives, moral dilemmas
– Crime and psychological thrillers: cozy crime, police procedural, amateur sleuth, murder mystery, hardboiled.

Please note: No YA, children’s, poetry, non-fiction, short stories, literary fiction.

Meet the Editors

Iain Millar (Founder) – Iain is one of Canelo’s co-founders and now Managing Director of both Canelo and Hera. A successful eBook publisher and award-winning book marketer, he is increasingly passionate about reading as a form of entertainment, and about ensuring that pleasure is truly accessible to all.

Nick Barreto (Founder) – Nick works where books and technology intersect. He’s managed and built apps, is an expert on eBook formats, metadata and workflows. He is committed to automating all the repetitive tasks to free up more time for the work that matters. Nick is one of Canelo’s co-founders and the Operations Director.

Louise Cullen (Executive Publisher) – Louise is Executive Publisher of the Canelo Publishing division. She has published authors including million-copy bestseller Rachel Lynch, Marion Todd and Jenny Blackhurst. Canelo Crime is also part of this division and headed up by Louise.

Keshini Naidoo (Associate Publisher) – Keshini has extensive experience of breaking books into bestseller status, with her biggest authors selling millions of copies in digital sales alone. Having started her editorial career at Avon (HarperCollins UK), she then moved to being Associate Publisher at Bookouture, where she published global bestsellers including Angela Marsons and Kathryn Croft. Keshini loves all genres of commercial fiction – from dark psychological thrillers with a twist.

Martina O’Sullivan (Executive Publisher) – Martina O’Sullivan is Executive Publisher of August Books. Martina is an experienced editor with almost 20 years’ experience working in trade, scholarly and academic publishing across a broad range of subjects with authors ranging from early career academics to celebrities and influencers.

Martina is expanding non-fiction publishing in history, popular culture, popular science and true crime. She is keen to explore ideas for books that don’t sit within traditional categories.

Canelo to Publish New WWII Series

Canelo has acquired World English language rights to The Flying Nightingales saga quadrilogy by Vicki Beeby, from Lina Langlee at The North Literary Agency in a four-book deal.

Courage for the Flying Nightingales will be published in both paperback and eBook, with A Near Miss for the Flying Nightingales to follow. For more information please contact kate.shepherd@uk.dk.com.
