Established in 1972, Dundurn Press is currently one of the largest independent publishing houses in Canada, with over 2,500 titles in print. They publish across numerous genres, from literary and genre fiction, to true crime, memoir and biography, sport, history and public policy.

Dundurn Press is currently accepting submissions. No agent required.

 “We are eager to consider your manuscript or proposal. Please review our guidelines carefully, and take a look at recent and upcoming titles on our website to determine if your project fits with our publishing program. Please send your submission to us by email. Do not send your submission by post or by hand; it will not be reviewed. If you have a query, include it in the email along with your submission.”

Dundurn is currently accepting literary fiction and literary non-fiction such as memoir. They will also be accepting non-fiction across numerous genres including:

– Biography
– History
– Public Policy
– Politics
– Business And Economics
– True Crime
– Self-Help Supernatural
– Travel
– Sport
– Music And Culture
– Architecture
– Social Science
– Popular Science

They are currently not interested in the following genres: poetry, children’s and YA​.

Dundurn only accepts submissions via email: submissions@dundurn.com.

NOTE: Dundurn does prioritize Canadian authors. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t at least a one in a million shot. Think: Lloyd Christmas.

Meet the Editors

Meghan Macdonald (Publisher) – Meghan acquires non-fiction in the areas of history, sports, current events, and public policy. Meghan also acquires fiction on a very selective basis for both the Rare Machines literary fiction imprint and Dundurn’s fiction list.

Kathryn Lane (Senior Editor) – Kathryn acquires non-fiction across a broad range of subjects including politics, local interest, wellness, history, and business. She is particularly interested in city development, our built heritage, personal finance, pop culture, and true crime.

Elena Radic (Managing Editor) – Elena acquires literary fiction, auto fiction, essays, and memoir with themes focusing on women’s issues, class and immigrant experiences, the environment, and other social issues. She also acquires non-fiction works on nutrition and wellness, psychology and mental health, and parenting and family.

Nicholas Freer (Editorial Assistant) – Nicholas acquires literary and speculative fiction. He is looking for new voices or works that accomplish something new whether in character, structure, narrative, genre, or form. He also acquires compelling non-fiction in the realm of history, reportage, essay, travelogue, food, and politics.

Akin Akinwumi (Editor-at-Large) – Akin acquires ambitious, intellectually bold fiction and non-fiction, including rediscovered classics. He is particularly interested in novels, short story collections, book-length essays, memoir, biography, reportage, environmental narrative, science writing, travelogue, and cultural criticism.

Russell Smith (Acquisitions Editor) – Russell acquires literary fiction for the Rare Machines imprint and journalistic, researched non-fiction on any subject for Dundurn Press.

Dundurn Press and CIC Launch New Series

Dundurn Press has partnered with the Canadian International Council (CIC) to launch a new non-fiction series that will explore geopolitical issues and Canada’s role on the global stage.

Dundurn Press will handle editorial for the titles in the series, and the CIC will promote it with cross-country tours. The CIC is a non-profit organization that fosters conversation about Canada’s role in international affairs.
