Founded in 2006, Dzanc Books publishes innovative and award-winning literary fiction and non-fiction, including short story collections and novels.

Unsolicited submissions okay. No agent required.

Submissions are open every year from Nov. 1 – Dec. 1.

Send synopsis along with complete manuscript. No genre fiction (sci-fi, mystery, romance, etc.), children’s books, or YA. They are also unable to consider any works that have been previously published.

Acquisitions

Cassandra Complex by Molly Llewellyn (Non-fiction) – An anthology featuring lesser-known myth and fairy tale retellings from around the world, including Palestine, Tonga, and Guatemala, with stories from K Ming Chang, Porochista Khakpour, T Kira Mahealani Madden, and more.

Lena and Rae by Kim Curch (Fiction) – Author of Byrd, winner of the Crook’s Corner Book Prize, Chautauqua Prize finalist, and longlisted for the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize Kim Church’s Lena and Rae, a story of sisterhood set during the fiery North Carolina textile strikes of the 1920s and 1930s.

The Splintering by Dur e Aziz Amna (Fiction) – Set in tumultuous Pakistan in 1988, where an ambitious young woman flees from her impoverished rural town to the wealthy capital of Islamabad, desperate for autonomy and determined to climb the social ladder at whatever cost.

Meet the Editors

Michelle Dotter (Publisher/Editor-in-Chief) – Michelle earned a degree in Creative Writing before beginning her editing career with MacAdam/Cage Publishing in San Francisco. Before coming to Dzanc, she also worked with MP Publishing, Cameron + Company and Once Magazine. She has worked with New York Times bestselling authors, along with winners of the National Book Award and the Whiting Award.

Chelsea Gibbons (Associate Editor) – Chelsea earned her BA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College while beginning her publishing career as copy editor for various Emerson publications. She worked as an editorial intern at Publishing Solutions Group before securing her editorial internship at Dzanc in the spring of 2023.
