Short, clear sentences will grab your readers’ attention.
Use adjectives sparingly.
Opening lines don’t have to be loud, subtlety is just as effective.
Examples:

A word of caution.

Do you understand how to ___? Here is why you’re wrong.

It should never have happened.

At the first sign of summer, I cried.

The letter lay on the table, daring me to open it.
