In 1976, Leslie Padman began Boolarong Publications in Bowen Hills because all of the book publishers were in Sydney and Melbourne. He wanted to give Queenslanders the opportunity to have their manuscripts published and printed by Queensland businesses. Padman started with art books and prints, followed by history and biographies.

Since then, Boolarong has printed over 1300 titles. Boolarong believes in the printed book. Boolarong does publish eBooks, but only as support for the printed book.

Boolarong Press Submissions

With a focus on historic literature and Australian themed children’s books, Boolarong Press has published titles including Tom Hurstbourne or A Squatter’s Life, the first book to be written, published and printed in Queensland.

The top-selling book published by Boolarong Press is Noel Whittaker’s Making Money Made Simple which sold over 325,000 copies.

Boolarong is a member of the Australian Publishers Association and The Small Press Network.
