Afsana Press is an independent publishing house whose stories have a direct relation to social, political or cultural issues in countries and communities all around the world.
The Afsana mission is to get to the heart of the matter, asking important questions about the environment, gender, development and social justice. Particular attention is paid to authors in exile.
Though based in London, UK, Afsana is global in spirit, promoting high-quality fiction from anywhere in the world. At the moment, they publish only in the English language, but hope soon to have capacity for translating literature from other languages.
Founded by author Goran Baba Ali, Afsana Press actually began in back in 2010. First publications from the UK came in 2021. Afsana is a member of the Independent Publishers Guild (IPG).

Unsolicited submissions welcome. No agent required.
Submissions open April 30.
Afsana Press is a small, independent press, aiming to publish a selective number of fictional works every year. Though they will consider fiction of any genre, their preference is towards the literary. Their stories have a direct relation to social, political or cultural issues in countries and communities around the world. They are looking for stories that reflect those matters, even if they are set in the past or deal with historical events.
*They have titles about Iran, Afghanistan and Ireland, just to name a few.
Please send your query to: submission@afsanapress.uk and include the first three chapters of you book (or around 15,000 words); a synopsis; a short blurb about the subject of the book, and tell them about yourself.

Goran Baba Ali (Founder & Co-Publisher) – Goran is also a writer and freelance journalist. He has an MA in creative writing from Birkbeck, University of London, and a BA in sociology from University of Amsterdam. goran.babaali@afsanapress.uk
Aleksandra Markovic (Co-Publisher & Managing Director) – Aleksandra is also a documentary filmmaker and lecturer at the SAE Institute in London. She has an MA in documentary film from Queen Mary University of London, and a BA in journalism from University of Zagreb. aleksandra.markovic@afsanapress.uk
Arazoo Kadir (Marketing & Sales) – Arazoo is also head of Agency Growth at a marketing consultancy. She has an MA in conflict resolution in divided societies and a BA in English language and literature from King’s College London. arazoo.kadir@afsanapress.uk
