An exciting in-person celebration proudly recognized by USA Today as one of the Top Best New Festivals in the Nation. Set in the heart of Sag Harbor, the Festival brings together both aspiring and established Black authors to honor the legacy and future of Black literary excellence. Theme for 2026: The Right to Write.

Founded on the historic shores of Martha’s Vineyard, the Black Authors Festival helped establish a powerful literary tradition that inspired the growth of additional Black book festivals throughout the Vineyard. We are proud to have sparked that movement.

Today, the Festival proudly calls Sag Harbor, New York home, a place of profound cultural significance and deep personal meaning to Founder Darlene Williams, who grew up on Eastern Long Island. Widely regarded as one of the most elite and swanky destinations in the country, Sag Harbor embodies luxury, legacy, cultural prestige, and timeless sophistication.

The Black Authors Festival is a nationally recognized cultural institution dedicated to celebrating Black literary excellence, advancing literacy, and protecting freedom of expression. Rooted in the belief that storytelling is both a creative act and a civil right, Black Authors Festival convenes authors, journalists, scholars, and cultural leaders whose voices shape history and public discourse.
