Why did we include a cowboy publisher? Why not? Exactly how many singing cowboys are still out there, anyway? Even though PRM is not a genre book, exceptions can be made. We just love this publisher!

About High Plains Press

High Plains Press has been publishing a few books a year on Wyoming and the West for over thirty-five years. Their respected Old West histories have become classics and are their best sellers. Volumes in the High Plains Press Poetry of the American West series have won multiple awards competing against publishers of all sizes. They publish about four books a year and have been in business since 1986.

They focus on “Old West” history and Poetry of the American West. Old West history is what we can sell best. They are also interested in other non-fiction and historical non-fiction relating to the West.

High Plains Press Submissions

Unsolicited submissions okay. No agent required.

The High Plains target area is Wyoming. They market successfully throughout the Rockies and the Pacific Northwest.

High Plains publishes one poetry title per year in a series called “Poetry of the American West.” They define this as poetry with a strong sense of place, that place being the West. Query them with a ten-poem sample. Poets whose work we are seriously interested in will be asked to submit a book-length manuscript in August when a selection will be made.

They have no outlet for single poems or for article-length material. They do not publish material written for children, nor do they publish fiction. Although their primary interest is in historical non-fiction, they will continue to publish contemporary non-fiction and how-to-books if they seem to fit our market.

Writers wishing to submit non-fiction should send a query letter to High Plains Press, P.O. Box 123, Glendo, WY 82213. Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope for a reply or for return of your materials.
