About Milkweed Editions

Milkweed Editions is an independent nonprofit literary publisher that originated from the Milkweed Chronicle literary and arts journal established in Minneapolis in 1979. The journal ceased and the business transitioned to publishing.

Since its founding in 1980, Milkweed has published over 350 books of literary fiction, non-fiction, and poetry and now have over six million copies in circulation.

Unsolicited submissions welcome, but only during open reading periods. No agent required.

Milkweed Authors

Hannah Emerson – Hannah is the author of The Kissing of Kissing, as well as the chapbook You Are Helping This Great Universe Explode. Her work has recently appeared in Poetry, The Paris Review, and The Poetry Project Newsletter. Emerson is a nonspeaking autistic poet who lives in Lafayette, New York.

Éireann Lorsung – Éireann works in a field of images, objects, movement, and texts, and especially in the overlap between printmaking and poetry. Her previous collections include Pattern-book; The Century, winner of the Maine Literary Award in Poetry.

Juliet Patterson – Julie is the author of Sinkhole, as well as two collections of poems, Threnody and The Truant Lover, a finalist for the Lambda Award. Her poems and essays have appeared widely. She has received fellowships from the Jerome Foundation, the Minnesota State Arts Board, and the Minneapolis-based Institute for Community Cultural Development. Her other awards include the Arts & Letters Susan Atefat Prize in nonfiction and the Lynda Hull Memorial Poetry Prize. She lives in Minneapolis.
